Analysing opening scenes of romcom's.

Opening scene of "How to lose a guy in 10 days"

 When the romantic comedy 'How to lose a guy in 10 days' begin, the music starts playing strait away, while they are introducing which company the movie are from (Paramount).

It was a real person that was singing, this would usually never happen in a opening scene in a horror film.

When the titles came up, they were flying in to the screen with very light colours, and when the movie started the titles continued comming up. When they had introduced the director of the movie, the titles stoped comming up. The director of a movie is usually always last    introduced, and there is no more titles after he or she is introduced.

     Kate Hudson is introduced to us in the first scene as a hard working woman. When she is on the screen, woman magazines comes up, about women and tips to them. This gives us a clue that she writes articles for the magazine, she might be a role model for many young women.

     In the next scene we are introduced to Matthew McConaughey, which plays a good looking guy, dressed in a letter jacket, black helmet, and he drives a motorbike. All this is signs off rebel behaviour. On the way he is dressed compared to the way Kate Hudson is dressed in the movie, it seems like he is in a lower class than her.

The opening scene of 'Just like heaven' by Mark Waters.

In the opening scene og 'Just like heaven' we can find many similarities to 'How to lose a guy in 10 days'. There is a real person that is singing strait away, while they are introducing which company the movie is from. There is a bright background and the titles are written with bright colours.

     When the first scene with people start, it is very heavenly. There is clouds and flowers, overall there is a really relaxed enviroment. The music to this scene is also very calming. In the next shot we find out that it was only the main person, played by Reese Witherspoon, that was daydreaming about the relaxed enviroment. Even though the very first shot of Reese Witherspoon, after she woke up from her dream, is a close up shot, we can find out that she is a docktor, this is because of the way she is dressed, and because of the stethoscope she has around her neck.

Comparing opening scene of horror movie and RomCom's.

 In contrast to the two romantic comedies, a horror movie would never start like them. Instead of having light and 'happy' colours, it would be dark and spooky colours on the titles and on the background.

     There would usually also never be a real person singing in a horror movie, like it was in both of the romcom's. The whole music would be different in a horror movie, they would try to make it scary, and 'dark'.

     Another difference between the opening scene of a romantic comedy and a horror movie is that in 'How to lose a guy in 10 days', the titles continues into the movie, like they also did in 'Just like heaven', this would not happen in a horror movie. In a horror movie the titles would get finished first, and then the movie would start.
